Internship Title: Youth Ministry Intern

Sponsoring Church: New Hope Church

Hometown: Granby, Connecticut

School/Education: Christian Ministries Major at Messiah College (Sophomore)

Personal Facts: I’m a big reader and film watcher. Music, literature and film encourage and challenge my thinking; thus, I invest a large amount of personal time with them. I enjoy friends, running for fun (I’ve completed two half-marathons), and coffee.

Future Goals: I aspire to become a pastor in some capacity. During and following that, I really would love to invest more in personal higher education. I would absolutely love being able to teach Bible or Theology courses at the collegiate level.

Name: Matthew Edgar

Position: Worship leader and Pastoral internship at Grace Community Church (GCC), Vineland, NJ

  Undergraduate:  Dickinson College

Current schooling: University of Medicine and Dentistry in NJ (UMDNJ)

Additional Work: Substitute high school teacher

I plan on using this internship to seek God, and the calling that He has for all of His children. My hope is to become a physician and use medicine as an avenue for planting churches and work in the mission field. God has recently shown me a model of healthcare that connects free clinics with the church.  In this way, the church is able to spread the gospel by serving and meeting the needs of the hurting.  I find that biblically, this is God’s intended model for reaching the lost:  loving God first, our neighbor second, and sacrificing our comforts to help the “least of these.”

I played soccer at Dickinson and am currently the worship leader at GCC.

Name: Jaylene Nissley

Internship: Children’s Ministry at The Bridge, Hummelstown

School: I am a sophomore Social Work student at Messiah College. Outside of school and my internship I enjoy babysitting 12-15 month olds once or twice a week.

Future goals: I plan to graduate from Messiah and go on to graduate school to get my masters in social work. For now I’m not sure what area of social work I want to pursue, but nearly all of them interest me. Once I’m done with school I hope to find a job in the city where I can live, work and eventually be a foster parent and start a family.

Personal Facts: I grew up in Elizabethtown PA and attended E-town BIC church from 5th grade till college. I’m the second child in my family and I have three brothers. I played a variety of sports growing up such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball and I loved bicycling in high school. At Messiah College I play ultimate frisbee. I also love listening to music and am learning to play guitar from a friend. Many of you may be familiar with Bible Quizzing. Throughout high school I was on E-town BIC’s Bible Quiz team and loved doing it. I especially loved the connection I made with my teammates and other quizzers through it.

Random Facts: I’m pretty tall (5’ 11”), yet I’m the shortest in my family.  I love long walks and running with friends.  If you ask any of my friends they’ll tell you that I love apples. My roommate and I had to put a limit on how many we’re allowed to eat each day.  Fall is my favorite season.  I love to drive. I think it runs in my family because my mom grew up wanting to be a race car driver and her brothers tend to fly down the road as well. I especially like the feeling of cruising down curvy back roads.

Hello, my name is Bradley Vater.  I have lived in the Ephrata/Akron area for the past three years and, before my internship at New Joy BIC, was a youth leader at New Life Fellowship Church here in Ephrata.  Prior to that time, I lived in sunny (liquid sunshine) Ocala, Florida for about seven years where I attained my Associates in Arts degree at the College of Central Florida and also served as youth pastor for Bread of Life Free Methodist Church.  This fall I will be attending LBC to attain my Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies while continuing to work full-time at Sight & Sound Theatres as a lighting technician.  I am very much blessed and looking forward to my internship at New Joy BIC and am excited to see how God uses me to help grow His Kingdom!  I also look forward to meeting as many of you, my fellow interns, as possible!  In Him for them!
